Kalpulli/Community Izkalli/House of Light is a grassroots, inter-generational, action and resource center formed in 1996 to transform the health and environment of our community.
We build community power through organizing and direct action, education, advocacy, and services, to address health and environmental issues that affect us on a day-to-day basis. Kalpulli Izkalli is led by families and individuals dedicated to healing our community and environment through the promotion, preservation and protection of cultural and traditional practices which include agriculture, medicine, and ceremony, as well as individual creativity to enhance personal, family, community and general human development. Our model for building a healthy and sustainable community includes a broad and inclusive process necessary in developing grassroots leadership, community power, and movement building. Creating partnerships is the cornerstone of our work in an effort to pool resources into our community in a more collaborative, strategic, and organized process of developing a healthy community.
Our vision is to strengthen the capacity for individuals and families to create positive changes in the way we live by integrating proactive approaches that promote traditional knowledge, values, and ethics of behavior that celebrate the sacredness of the natural world and its interdependence on humanity. Our mantra is, “as we heal ourselves, we heal the earth.”
Albuquerque, NM – August 2011 – The Kalpulli Izkalli and the Topahkal Traditional Medicine Clinic is honored to invite the community of Albuquerque and the surrounding areas to the 5th Anniversary Celebration and Community Healing Event, the Doña Predicanda Perea Encuentro de Medicina Tradicional, on Saturday, September 10, 2011, at the Westside Community Center at 1250 Isleta Blvd., SW.
Did you know that Kalpulli Izkalli was the first organization for promoting, protecting, and practicing Traditional Medicine in New Mexico. For the past 5 years we have held the Annual Doña Predicanda Perea Gathering of Traditional Medicine where community and healers come together to celebrate and honor the medicine and those that have come before us with this incredible legacy of healing ourselves. We invite you to join us in this wonderful community celebration. (See attached flyer for details). This event is community led with very little outside resources. We depend on folks like you to continue healing ourselves and our community, and keeping this medicine ALIVE. Donate Today!
